Hello! We’re Chucklefish – an independent games studio based in London, UK. We develop and publish our own games and provide support to other developers!

History

How it all started…When Chucklefish formed in mid-2011, we were just a handful of people spread across the globe with no studio experience, no funding, and an idea for a massive space game – Starbound. In April 2013, we hosted a pre-order campaign for Starbound through our own website using Humble widgets. We received an overwhelming amount of support from our community, raising over $1,000,000 towards the game’s development in less than a month.

Moving to LondonOn 4 December 2013, we launched Starbound on Steam Early Access. In 2014, we were finally able to stop working out of our bedrooms and instead relocate to a central office in London. Chucklefish has expanded quite a bit in the last couple of years – we’ve got 18 full-time employees now! – but we remain totally self-funded and independent. Since Starbound’s full launch on PC in 2016, we’ve worked on numerous updates to the game, alongside supporting other indie developers with the publishing elements of their games, such as Hopoo Games’ Risk of Rain and ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley. Most recently we released the turn-based strategy game Wargroove, and we’re currently developing a new project, Witchbrook.
